The main variety of saddle used for general pony riding is the English Saddle. It has a spring tree as a foundation and is well padded for the comfort of both pony and rider. This kind of saddle allows the pony to move freely so it can jump, gallop or perform dressage.
The chief designs of English Saddle are:
The All Purpose English Saddle. As the name implies a general saddle useful for hacking, jumping (occasional), showing, dressage.
The Jumping Saddle is designed for show jumping, cross-country and fox hunting. The main distinction between this and the all-purpose saddle is how the forward-cut flap is designed to make it possible to use shorter stirrups to ensure the legs are in the perfect jumping position. The flap incorporates additional knee pads to support the knees.
The Dressage Saddle is designed for working on the flat, therefore the flap can be straighter cut than a jumping or all-purpose saddle, with the seat designed to be deeper and further forward, all to allow for the rider's straighter leg and body position. This saddle has less padding so the rider has more contact, and thus more fine control of the pony. Longer girth straps are used with a dressage saddle as they are fastened much closer to the pony's elbow .
The Showing Saddle is for use in showing, where the judges need uninterrupted views of the pony's conformation, thus it is small and light. It has a small amount of padding and not much support for the rider, with no knee rolls.
The Western Saddle was used as a working saddle, providing both security and comfort to cowboys riding the range across rough terrain, working cattle for extended periods of time. The Western Saddle has a horn on the front to be used to fasten a rope to control a cow. A western saddle usually has fancy decoration with tooled leather and silver plates, and is often decorated especially for the rider. The tree is bigger than an English saddle and without padding for that reason it is crucial for the pony's comfort to use a saddle blanket. A cinch is used with this saddle instead a girth, the cinch being attached to the saddle with a flat leather or nylon strap (the latigo). The stirrups are fixed to the saddle and do not separate in case of a fall by the rider.
The most important kinds of Western Saddle are:
The Barrel Racing Saddle is designed for the sharp turns and high-speed runs used in the rodeo event of barrel racing. It is a small, lightweight saddle with a flatter seat and high cantle and pommel to give the rider a more secure seat.
The Endurance Saddle is lightweight with a larger tree to spread the weight of the rider over a bigger area to make it more comfortable for the pony while engaged in long treks over uneven ground
The Show Saddle generally has a lot more tooling and silver decoration and a deeper seat than a normal Western saddle
The Treeless Saddle. Instead of the saddle having a rigid tree as a foundation the treless saddle has a fibreglass pommel and cantle to give a firm base. If your pony has a very broad back a treeless saddle will probably fit better than a standard saddle.
14" 15" 16" Showman Western Barrel Saddle

US $645.00
End Date: Friday Sep-10-2010 12:53:30 PDT
Buy It Now for only: US $645.00
Buy it now | Add to watch list

Riders use saddles for security and comfort when riding a pony. Before, saddles are just made of some kind of padding or protection secured by a surcingle. Today, saddles have more intricate designs. pony riding saddles have many various styles such as English saddles, Stock saddles, military saddles, Asian saddles and endurance saddles. The structures of horse riding saddles differ as their utilities. Meaning, there's a specific saddle for use in specific horse riding discipline. horse riding saddles have different structures as each has different uses. Among them are the four basic types which are the dressage saddle, hunt seat saddle, cutback saddle and the Western saddle. A dressage saddle is a British saddle that is utilised by dressage riders who perform discipline that don't involve jumping. For that reason, the saddle is designed with a deep seat to allow the rider to sit nicely and relaxed. It has long stirrups, long and straight down saddle flaps, a high cantle and a high pommel. In this type of saddle, padding is smaller. A hunt seat saddle is also a variety of English saddle but its structure is sort of opposite to that of the dressage saddle. This is so because hunt seat saddle is used in disciplines that involve jumping. This saddle is designed with a flat seat, short stirrups, low cantle, low pommel and knee rolls with padding. What makes it so different from others is its forward-cut flap. Also known as jumping saddle, forward seat and close contact saddle, hunt seat saddle is very popular. Riders use hunt seat saddle in show jumping, hunt seat equitation, fox hunting as well as in stadium and cross-country phases of eventing. Cutback saddle is also a preferred kind of English saddle that's used for saddle seat riding. Saddle seat riding is a horseback riding that is intended to show off the high trotting action of a certain horse breed. It has longer and flatter seat, wide front-to-back flaps, cut back pommel and long stirrups. This saddle is AKA saddle seat saddle, Park or Lane Fox. Western saddle, commonly known as cowboy saddle, is a popular saddle especially in the western part of US. It is employed for Western riding and on working horses on cattle ranches. This saddle differs from other saddles as it is designed with a horn where riders tie or dally a cow. Western saddles have deep seats, high cantles and are designed with heavy and important trees. Unlike English saddles, they have no padding between the trees and the external leather and fleece skirting. Examples of Western saddles are cutting saddle, roping saddle, endurance saddle, trail saddle, equitation saddle and barrel racing saddle.
Courbette English Close Contact Saddle Aristokrat 16.5M

US $999.00
End Date: Friday Sep-10-2010 15:41:15 PDT
Buy It Now for only: US $999.00
Buy it now | Add to watch list

They are some of the most beautiful horses in the world, with a versatility that is unbelievable. Warmbloods, unlike what many people think, are a true breed. All of the studbooks are closed. What this means is only a horse of that breed can be registered in that studbook. The only exception is individuals of other breeding that are deemed to be able to improve the bloodline of the current breed. This is shown through performance records and the success of offspring in competition. There are various types of Warmbloods:

The Hanoverian

The Hanoverian's originate from Germany. There primary use is for dressage and show jumping. These horses are mildly temperamental, with more of a calmness in nature than many horse breeds. The most common coloring in the Hanoverian are Chestnut, Bay and Grey.

The Hanoverian Horse is a well built, well put together horse with much success in the disciplines of dressage and show jumping. This breed tends to be very versatile.

The Holsteiner

The Holsteiner originates from Germany, usually reaching 16 to 17 hands. These horses are mildly temperamental and are used for show jumping, dressage and reining. They tend to usually be bay in color, but mostly any solid coloring. Most Hosteiners have a defined canter that tends to be very expressive, but lacks an impressiveness at the trot. They are typically well known as excellent jumpers but have made their imprint on the dressage community.

Dutch Warmblood

The Dutch Warmblood's originate from Holland and are very easy going, typically calm in nature. These good tempered horses are built well running around 16 to 17 hands. They are known to excel at whatever discipline they are trained by.

Friesian

The Friesians originate from Holland and Germany with the studbook now kept in Germany, the FPZ. They are mildly temperamental growing to a huge size of 17 hands. They are primarily used for Dressage and reining but are sometimes seen on the show jumping circuit. These horses are also used for trick training, being widely versatile and very easily trainable. There are distinct characteristics of the Friesians. Baroque, which is mainly upright, with higher action and more feathering with a heavier mane and tail. Traditional, which is heavier and more drafty usually used for driving, and Sport Horse, which is used for all types of riding and driving. These horses are amazing. Very versatile with a very calm temperament for such an enormous horse.

Swedish Warmblood

The Swedish Warmbloods originate from Sweden, obviously. They will grow to be 16 to 17 hands. The are used for show jumping, dressage and reining. There coloring is all solid, predominantly Chestnut. The Swedish Warmbloods are one of the youngest warmblood breeds , so true "type" is not quite defined. Mainly having solid movements, with the conformation and their temperament being highly variable.

Trakhener

The Trakheners originate from Poland and East Prissuia. They tend to be a little more temperamental than a lot of other warmbloods. They are used for dressage, jumping and eventing. Coloring is mainly solid with defined characteristics of nice movements with good push from behind. They tend to be a bit stubborn and even difficult at times. Although there are some very lovely Trakheners. This breed possess a strong competitive drive owing perhaps to the large amount of Thoroughbred blood most carry.

Oldenburg

The Oldenburgs originate from Germany. They grown to the large size of 16 to 17 hands. These horses are very calm and loveable. There coloring is solid but any color. They are primarily used for dressage and jumping. They were the first studbook with an American Division. Interestingly enough, all American Warmbloods approved by the ISR are registered as Oldenburgs, regardless of their actual parentage.

Andalusians

The Andalusians originate from Spain. They are smaller in height, ranging from 14. 3 to 16 hands. They are used for dressage, bullfighting, parades and trick training. They come in solid colors, including mulberry. Bay and grey are the most common. Black and Dun are the least common. Andalusians are classically styled Baroque horses. They have thick manes and tails and tend to have high , lofty actions for their size. The Spanish Olympic Team was comprised entirely of Andalusians for the 2000 Games.

Horses are an amazing animal, no matter what the breed or bloodlines. They love their owners and one forms an attachment to their horse like no other. I couldn't imagine my life without my horse.
j881-b Hanoverian Horse Model Home Decor NEW Light Sign

US $25.98
End Date: Wednesday Sep-29-2010 22:39:15 PDT
Buy It Now for only: US $25.98
Buy it now | Add to watch list

Take a look at some of the varieties of Western saddles out there, and remember that there are plenty more that can be found as well!A trail or pleasure saddle is a Western saddle that is a saddle design mainly for comfort during long rides. It's lighter than a working saddle, and there are many different variations on it. It tends to have a higher fork and a thinner horn, and it often features a padded seat. Barrel racing saddles are built for speed, and they are often even lighter than pleasure saddles. They are meant to anchor the rider to their horse through all sorts of twists and turns, and you'll often see them at sports events. They tend to feature a tall thin horn, and a deep seat for additional stabilityShow saddles are meant to be seen, and it shows. These saddles are highly decorative and can be considered quite trendy as they can fall in and out of fashion very quickly. You'll find that they tend to have lots of silver trim, intricate leather tooling and deeper skirts to show off the stylings. As the name suggests, a roping saddle is meant to help rope and dally a cow. These saddles tend to be extremely sturdy and to have a wooden saddle tree with a low and rounded fork. You'll find that there is often a full double rigging for stability and a tall thick saddle horn. A reining saddle, with its low seat, free swinging fenders and thinner stirrup leathers are designed to show off the horse's conformation and precision. When looking at a reining saddle, you'll also find that there is no flank cinch, and the rigging is dropped in order to reduce the bulk that occurs under the rider's legs. When a horse and rider are involved in cutting, where a stock animal will be separated from the herd, you'll see a cutting saddle with high and wide swells to keep the rider seated, a tall thin horn, which makes for a good gri,p and forward hung fenders that will help the rider stay balanced. The endurance saddle, which is meant to see horse and rider through 50 to 100 miles at a stretch, is typically made ligh,t but sturdy, with a padded seat, deep stirrups and no horn. This is a saddle that is designed for durability and comfort, and is made to be fairly small and light. Ranch saddles are also known as "all around" saddles, and these saddles are meant to about as multi-purpose as you can get. They are heavier saddles that are suited to both full work days and long rides, and they are meant to keep you and the horse comfortable for long stretches of time. They tend to have a deep seat, a thick saddle horn, and are usually double rigged.
Saddle Bronc Rodeo Cowboy Wood Dbl.

Different Types of English SaddlesOnce you have been riding for a while, you might find that you want to buy a saddle of your own. Taking a trip to the local tack shop is a great beginning, but it can be overwhelming to discover the wide range of English saddles available on the market. How do you know which style is best for your needs? The following list describes the most common styles of English saddles available on the market. While you might find that one type is better for your needs than another, remember that comfort is highly important, and should not be compromised. Also consider that a saddle must also fit the horse you ride, and should be tried before making your final decision. Most tack stores will allow a buyer to try a saddle and return it if the saddle is not suitable. Just be prepared to pay for the saddle in advance in case of damage. All-Purpose SaddleJust like its name, an all-purpose saddle is designed to suit most English disciplines. Built with a mid-height pommel and cantle, all purpose saddles are fairly secure to ride in. Good-sized knee rolls with suede leather sections offer good grip and help the rider maintain a correct position. All-purpose saddles are great for beginning riders and riders who are not ready to specialize. More advanced riders may become frustrated with the padding, which can interfere with more advanced movements and rider positions. Close ContactA favorite of many hunter/jumper riders, close contact saddles do not have the padding that all-purpose saddles have. There is no knee roll, and the pommel and cantle are generally not as high. Beginners may feel lost and off balance in a close contact saddle as there is little to support their position. More advanced riders like the feel of the saddles, as they can feel the horse beneath them more easily. Jumping SaddleDesigned for jumpers, this saddle has a flap that is cut forward, so that there is better support for the leg while using a shorter stirrup length. This can be quite important as riders challenge the large fences found in the advanced jumper ring. There is a fair bit of padding on the saddle, but it is positioned differently than on an all-purpose saddle. It is difficult to use a jumping saddle for extensive flat work, and most jumper riders have a second saddle for use during training on the flat. Dressage SaddleThis is the style of saddle designed primarily for dressage riders. With long, straight flaps, the saddle support the longer stirrup length that dressage riders prefer. The cantle is generally fairly high, offering a lot of security to the rider. One interesting design difference in dressage saddles is the way the girth attaches. The long billets allow dressage girths to be very short in length, fastening below the flap, rather than beneath the rider's leg. Likewise, the stirrup leathers are often designed to avoid large buckles. Dressage saddles are useless for jumping, but are necessary for more advanced levels of dressage. If a rider has no intention of jumping, the dressage saddle can be very comfortable, and helps a rider maintain position for dressage. While there are many other styles of saddle available that can be used for English riding, these are the most common. Take your time and choose a saddle that not only fits your discipline, but also is comfortable and fits your horse. A saddle is an expensive investment, but if well chosen, can last you a lifetime.
NEW - REGENT-COLUMBIA DRESSAGE ENGLISH SADDLE-16.5"

US $64.95 (0 Bid)
End Date: Friday Sep-10-2010 13:41:50 PDT
Bid now | Add to watch list
