What Is Western Tack?

Posted: Mar 26, 2010 |Comments: 0

]]>

Western tack is also known as 'cowboy tack'.   There is a difference in some of the western tack as opposed to, say, English tack.   The English, for instance, have different tack to accommodate their different usage and riding styles.   Western tack is used more for the purpose of riding the range, in rodeo events, western horse shows, and on western ranches and farms in North and South America. Western saddles have no padding and require the use of a horse blanket for the animal's comfort. The English saddle has no horn. For the uninformed, no, this is not a reference to a horn that honks.   If you insist, you could rig a bicycle horn to your tack somewhere, somehow, just for kicks.   Your horse may not appreciate the unwelcome attention it would surely invite from passersby.   The temptation to create noise could spook or irritate your beloved pet.  The western saddle has a horn for the practical use of holding a rope to lasso livestock and for your added convenience and support. There is much more to western tack than the saddle.   If you haven't a clue as to what owning a horse involves, review the following short list to get familiar with the term western tack. Breast collars, rope/webbing, western bridles, roping reins, training supplies, spurs, whips, saddles, cinches, girths, pads, horse blankets, stirrups, halters, leads, horseshoes. Does it seem overwhelming?  To a beginning horse owner, it certainly could be!  Don't despair or give up easily.   After all, anything worth having is worth learning about! There's a wealth of information available about horses, western tack, horse blankets, how to care for horses, where to buy your equipment, feeding, vet supplies, and fencing. Make sure you do your research, preferably before you begin your journey as a proud horse owner! There are several words to use to search for information on tack, including western tack, tack, and equipment for horses, cowboy tack, equestrian supplies, and horse supplies.   Even a search for horse blankets can lead to a discovery for tack.   Almost any area of the country is sure to turn up a discovery of someone who owns a horse or is a collector of western tack or horse blankets. Although the horse blanket may be considered more of a supply than a piece of equipment, it is still associated with western tack.   It is a necessary addition to your collection of horse care items. Your horse blanket can also be used as more than just a blanket for your horse.   Suppose you have to spend a night out on the range.   You could snuggle up to your horse and share his blanket for warmth!  This is, or course, assuming your horse is a snuggler!  If it's a nice, clear, warm night, you could use your horse blanket for a pillow or just to lie on.  If you are a collector of western tack, consider adding the horse blanket to your precious list of items to complete the picture.

A Peek Into The History Of Horse Blankets

Horse blankets have been used at ceremonies and other special occasions. The intention was actual use under a saddle, often with an added pad. The Navajo blankets are

About Horse Saddles And Horse Blankets

Horse saddles and horse blankets are something people usually associate together when the horse comes to mind. If you plan to ride your horse, you'll need both. Even if you don't have to use the horse blanket with the horse saddle, you'll still want a horse blanket for other times. You'll want one when your horse is kept in a drafty stall, when your horse is waiting out in the cold weather for a show, when your horse is waiting in a holding pen for vet's attention and it is cold outside.

Buying Recreational Properties

Land is the new way America is investing. It has become quite lucrative because it is able to withstand the shocks of the economy. Where stocks have performed poorly and when stock exchanges have gone downwards, land has always remained a strong investment avenue. The reason for this trend has been simple - land has many uses and it does not cost much to maintain. The new trend in land owner and acquisition is recreation. Now more and more people are owning land for recreational purposes. They want to be able to use the land for their personal fishing, hiking or hunting. In other cases, they would want to develop waterfront properties and then offer them for sake or rent them out. Still more, others would want to set up ranches and then earn income from the agricultural operations or just live in them. Many have bought land for solely agricultural uses. Some have used it for orchards, crop farms and even livestock. The interest in the soaring prices of wine makes land in the rural, warm areas get so much value as the cultivation grapes could earn one so much in money. It has also become a past time for people to raise timberlands. They would either buy land with existing timber or they soul plant trees to sell later. Timber is a great forest product in the rural areas for the reason that it is the primary input for the building of log homes. The timber produced by the forests is sold to builders who use it to build cabin houses. You may want to know that land use has changed drastically over the years. No more is the majority of land put to agricultural use. Nowadays many are put to recreational use. It is believed that recreational properties fetch 5 times more come than agricultural land. For this reason, many land owners and investors are devoting their land to recreational use. The resale value of the land has also increased. Now as land becomes much needed for recreation, so will the price. Selling off land you bought some few years ago could reap you so much in profits. In a good area you may be able to get twice as much as you bought it. If you are looking to buy or develop hunting property, you may want to try Michigan. In this state you may want to go to the Upper Peninsula where you can be able to get scenic land for your property. This region abounds in great wildlife. You can have deers, elk and quails. They make an excellent opportunity for anyone to put up recreational facilities that will cater to hunters, anglers and hikers. The place has lots of trails and wood which could serve as the perfect location for someone interested in outdoor sports. If you intend to buy hunting land in this area, you may want to lease with the local authorities to determine the zoning requirements. You will have to know about what use you can put the land. Many of these places also have their one and conservation policies. You will want to know about these so that you will stay within the law as you develop your property. Another area you may want to buy land is eastern Texas. This area is a preferred destination for many vacationers who want to partake of the beauty of the rural land and then partake of its pleasures. They will want to visit ranches and see cowboys rear cattle. They will want to see large tracts of farmland. Hunting especially is most appropriate in eastern Texas. You can hunt for almost all kinds of wildlife. The warm region provided a good place for most animals. Buying a hunting ground can earn you a lot of money over the years. You would want to situate your land near a place that has water bodies so you can be able to count on continued support for the wildlife there.

Mick Dittman: The Enforcer

Queenslander, Leonard Ross Dittman, known as Mick Dittman didn't take long to become one of Australia's champion jockeys with an outstanding career record. Known as 'The Enforcer' because of his use of the whip, Dittman dominated Australian race tracks in partnership with trainer, late T. J. Smith, a formidable combination that rewrote many chapters in horse racing history. Dittman began his racing career on the Gold Coast as an apprentice with Bill Kraft in the mid-1960s. As an apprentice, Dittman's first triumph was on Red Shah in the 1968 Gold Coast Newmarket. The taste of victory was too tempting for 'The Enforcer' who soon steered Makata in the very next year to the winning post in the Ipswich Cup. His final years as an apprentice with Patt Duff in Brisbane was the beginning of a glorious adventure on the tracks with his first Group 1 win on Knee High in the 1972 Doomben Cup. Dittman made sure he dominated Brisbane racing . The big southern carnivals were his lucky charm with a record six winners as well as a second place at in a special program at Eagle Farm in November 1976. Dittman's never say die attitude continued in the 1980s in Sydney in a partnership with Tommy Smith, in whose stable he became the top rider. The Smith-Dittman duo brought home three Sydney premierships which formed the basis of one of the most formidable combinations in Australian horse racing history. Winning 88 Group 1 races is no small feat for Dittman whose penchant for winning resulted in a total of 1700 victories which included the Melbourne Cup in 1982 where he collared the 'King', Kingston Town, in the shadows of the post to take Gurner's Lane home by a 1/2 head. Among the other memorable wins in the saddle are three Golden Slippers, two Cox Plates, and a Caulfield Cup. Angus Armanasco trainer of Full On Aces was the colt that brought home Dittman his very first Golden Slipper in 1981, followed by yet another victory in 1986 with the T. J Smith trained Bounding Away. Chestnut filly Bint Marscay trained by L. Freedman handed him his third Golden Slipper Stakes in the year of 1993. Strawberry Road and Red Anchor were the two horses that won him Cox Plates while he rode Sydeston home in the Caulfield Cup. Had Dittman forayed onto the race tracks overseas, it doesn't take much of an imagination to figure out what his record would have turned out to be, especially along with T. J. Smith. His love for his native Queensland made him entertain only interstate mounts during the big carnivals. A mangnificent horse racing career with more than 1700 wins can not go unnoticed. Mick Dittman, undoubtedly, was inducted into Australia's Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2002. Dittman hung up his racing boots to become a bloodstock agent in Singapore. This is not before setting up his son, Luke Dittman, to continue his rich legacy. Gamblers at Eagle Farm Racecourse have the 1000 metres Mick Dittman Plate to wager on as a tribute to Mick Dittman, 'The Enforcer'.

Regarded as the greatest tactical jockey in the world, broken vertebrae in his neck and back did not stop Shane Dye from becoming the 'Golden Boy' of Australian horse racing. Choosing Saddles and Horse Tack Can Be Easier than Ever

Posted: Mar 04, 2011 |

]]>

When you're in a position that you have to choose saddles or horse tack, you might be thinking that the choice will be complicated and require lots and lots of shopping. Chances are that if you are a horse enthusiast, you probably know a few things about these products already. That's wonderful, but there is a little more that you should be doing when you're looking for these products for you and your horse. - When you're choosing a saddle, you're not only looking for a good fit for your horse, you're also considering what's going to be a comfortable fit for you. So you have some things to consider. It's a good idea to shop for a while to get an idea of which saddles are comfortable for both you and your horse the first time around. Read magazines, talk to other horse lovers and see what they are using for saddles. - Once you have a good idea of what kind of saddle you're interested in it's a good time to find the right retailer for you. Consider going online for this kind of shopping, because you might have an easier time finding unique products that many physical retailers don't carry. You will likely also find better prices on the brand name products that you're looking for when you choose the right online retailer. - When it comes to tack, your needs might be different than other people's needs. Tack is actually just a broader term for the gear that you're going to need to keep your horse and you happy and comfortable while you're riding. You should consider the job you want the tack to do when you're choosing. Essentials such as bridles, bits and irons are all important parts of riding, so you should consider what you want these products to do and how comfortable you want your horse to be. - Once you've chosen, it's a good idea to take a look at all your retailers so that you can get a great bargain and top quality products that will last for as long as you need them to. Saddles and horse tack are important parts of owning and riding a horse. You need to make sure that everything fits and works well to ensure that you and your horse are as comfortable and safe as you can be. So, don't scrimp when it comes to your saddles and horse tack or you may find that you unknowingly hurt yourself or your horse.
