I work with over 50 horses, most will chew on wood idly. This is not that they have bad training, it is because many have come from mexico and are used to gaining sustenance from trees and bushes compiled with the fact that most west texas corrals are composed of metal poles.

The horses we have were chewing for a while we have two so I know they are not lonely and your right there is not much you can do unless you have a collar or spray but they stop I don’t know why.

I’m not sure so much on settling their stomachs but the horse could very well just be a cribber and unless you have sprays or collars you can’t stop them i know a cribber and im trying but if his collar is off for five seconds he goes off to crib.

Horses eat bark off of trees all the time…they do that to settle their stomach.

I read that horses chew on wood to help settle their stomach, and what do you want her to do hit the horse to get it to stop?
