If you’re serious about keeping her, show them you are willing to do what you need to do to pay for keeping her. If that means mucking stalls where you board, cutting grass around the neighborhood, a paper route or whatever you can do to help your parents.
The monthly cost to keep a horse properly can easily be more than a car payment. Let them know how much you appreciate that they have given this to you and how serious you are about being committed to showing that.
Owning a pet is a privilege and responsibility, not a right.

I have been fully paying for and supporting my horses since I was sixteen because my parents couldn’t afford them anymore and wanted to sell them.
I’m having difficulty paying for my mare at the minute and I’m eighteen and am employed. Horses are very expensive to keep. I am able to afford my horse by having two part time jobs AND working weekends at the stables where she is kept. I don’t get paid at the stables but the owner of the yard lets me off with some of my livery bill. If you are still at school and not able to work I suggest you find a weekend job or see if the yard where you horse is needs any help like I do. You could even consider moving your horse to another yard where livery is cheaper or there is work you can do.
I also have a sharer for my mare. She rides her two days per week for £20 which helps me a hell of a lot. It’s a risk to have someone else riding your horse but if it’s the only way to keep her it needs to be done. A proper contract should be drawn up and you should get some kind of insurance (sometimes sharers will pay for insurance too).
The other option is to let your parents sell your horse, wait until you can afford to buy and provide for a horse yourself. I know it’s hard, I know how you feel, I had three horses and had to cut back to one. If your parents sell your horse you could think about sharing a horse yourself so that you don’t have all the costs and worries.
It may not just be your horse that your parents are struggling to pay for, they might need to sell your horse and use the money to pay bills etc. If your parents are struggling for money your horse might not have 100% insurance and she has an accident how are you going to pay vets bills? Also, she needs vaccinations, worming, farriery, feed, all the equipment if something breaks. It would really just be easier to share one.
I hope you choose the right thing and can work this out with your parents. H x

I hate to say it but…well there is not much you can do. If your parents cant afford to feed it then what do you want to do let it starve. Wouldn’t you rather sell it to some one that can take care of it. I am so very sorry I know this must be hard for you. But you are just going to have to make the adult decision and do what is best for your horse not what is best for you. Here are some good websites to advertise your horse on.

I can tell you what you can do, and in my opinion the best thing you can do. When ever a situatetion arises that strikes fear, sadness or any negative thought or emotion: You’ve got to release your burdens to God. Pray to him with all of your might, follow him, listen to him and try to align yourself with His Vision. I often find that when I release troubles to the Holy Spirit they are resolved in that trust. Trust in Him. I will pray for you and your horse as well. I had to move several times within the past few months, and was very afraid that I would have to give up my doggy, who is my best friend. But God worked it all out for us.

I can see that the author’s family is in financial trouble,u r one of ur family, wont u do something, man? U love ur horse, but u can sell it to someone else who luvs it too. In my opinion, if u cant earn enough money while ur family is in the finacial problem,u shoudnt keep that horse.
Hope u can sell a good price and find a horse-lover buyer.
