I would reccomend an all purpose. then when you get a better idea of what you want to do you can branch out into a specific saddle

Depends on your budget. Close contact FOR SURE!!!!
Expensive one: http://www.doversaddlery.com/crosby-victory-saddle/p/X1-15682/cn/1714/

If you are going to show in dressage- I would advice a dressage saddle.
If you are doing flat work- I would recommed a all purpose or close contact.
If you are going to do jumping I would recommed a close contact.
If you are doing saddle seat I would suggest a Lane Fox.
Have fun and good luck on your saddle quest.

Definitely purchase an all-purpose saddle. It is somewhat of a beginner’s saddle, but don’t be discouraged by that. It’s usually cheaper and easier to use, as you don’t have to worry as much about leg placement because they won’t be as close to the horse.
Good luck!
Edit: I have to say that buying a cheap close contact is not the best way to go. I’ve heard that the shape of the saddle on the horse may not be that comfortable, causing problems down the road. That’s only what I’ve heard, though…there aren’t many people to discuss this with around here.

i would not get an a/p
they don’t work for dressage and they don’t go well for jumping. Unless you are doing only dressage, get a close contact. YOu can do everything in it. A/p are just for trailriding and very begginer things.

i would recommend trying a treeless saddle. I have an ansur and I like it for all around work. You can feel the movement of the horse really well. Some horses love them, others don’t. Here is a link:

The company is really awesome about guarantees and the matter. The saddles are also pretty easy to take care of. They are kinda pricey but they re-sell very well because they are hard to find. The big plus is that they fit any horse!
ps: if you get this saddle, I recommend and wintec girth.
Good luck with the hunt!

try and borrow a couple or three before you out lay some serious cash and end up with something you don’t like or need.
failing that go to your saddlers (as many as you can) and have a talk and a sit in some saddles
