Saddle bags are normally referred to bags that are attached to the saddles on a horse or otherwise. In horse riding especially, saddle bags can be kept in various positions. It could be in the back, side, or front of the saddle. Mostly they are attached to the saddle by straps, ropes or ties. They are made from a variety of materials, but leather is the material most commonly used. But due to the heavy maintenance needs and expensive costs of good quality leather, manufacturers are now opting for newer and different materials for making saddle bags of the same quality. There are several types of saddle bags available in the market like Pommel bags which is always located in the front of the saddle, traditional paired saddlebags which normally lies on the hips of the horse and can be on either side of the cantle. Also are available an assortment of smaller bags such as a cantle bag which is a small tube-like bag that is positioned just behind the saddle, or a single small saddle bag that may be carried on the right hand side of an English saddle. Another type is the pannier-style bags that are fitted over a pack of saddles, which is basically used for packing gear on a horse rather than for carrying a rider. So have all the requisite knowledge when you are out shopping for a saddle bag. In various sports like for example bicycling, a saddlebag or seat bag is attached under the saddle or seat. Bags smaller in size are typically used to hold a few items such as spare inner tubes, sacks, puncture repair kit, other tools, rain gear, food, bottles, first-aid kits, etc. Seat bags or saddle bags are commonly used by people who use touring bicycles, racing bicycles, and cross country mountain chic bikes. If you spot a bag on a motorcycle, be sure they are saddlebags or what are known as panniers. These are mounted behind the seat of the rider and are installed on either side of the rear wheel. Horse saddle bags or the western saddlebags have a huge market in the western countries where horse riding is a favourite sport for many. These are easily available in the local markets, but one has to have a sound knowledge of what to look out for when buying a saddle bag. They come in two sizes: large and medium. Varieties include leather horse saddle bags, western saddle bags and cordura horse saddlebags, amongst others. Options for triple saddle bags in a variety of colours are also available in the market. Saddle bags are to be made of quality leather so that it will last for many years. Also the leather saddle bags have the much needed old world, traditional western look. This adds to the ethnicity of the saddle bags. Saddle bags normally come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. They are used as luggage bags or as a basic container to carry around items in an easy way.
